Boozer and I went to Abilene for a weekend of trail riding and cliff work. We got to meet some great people. Becky, thank you for opening up your home and let me crash there for the weekend. I really appreciate it. To the Gray family, Boozer thanks you for giving him a stall and an all you can eat buffet of alfalfa and thrive. I also thank you for all the food yall cooked while I was there, it was amazing. I love surrounding myself with great horse people, and this family is a great horse family. Dale, thank you for introducing me to great people, without you I would not be the horsewomen I am becoming.
Other then that we did lots of swimming in the ponds, and lots of cliff work and trail riding. Just really bonding and learning to trust one another! Amazing the things that come from a simple trail ride. Boozer is coming along nicely! The greatest thing of all is that even if we do not make top twenty, I will have an exceptional partner in crime. LOL. He is extremely intelligent and so willing to do everything that I ask of him. Thank you Boozer for being such an AWESOME horse! Thank you God for the opportunities in my life!

computer and phone up and running!
Okay, computer and phone up and running again. Now I will try to stay a little more consistent with my updates! I apologize for breaking my phone and the internet going up and down. LOL !
Now that i got that off my chest! Boozer has been doing really really well. We are just keeping our heads low and working working working. I am a little dissapointed that we will not be able to use anything cool at the competition like fire or flares or SOMETHING along those lines. I had big plans. Oh well, plans change. Other then that Boozer is just working and coming along great! Not really anything that interesting to report cause he is doing so good. We have our bad days of course, dont get me wrong, but 90% of the time its a good day and that is what I want. I dont expect him to be perfect. Tomorrow he gets his second trim from Ren and then off to the horse course in weatherford! Exciting. Thanks for checking in. More to come!

week 8 continued
Boozer is doing good, still having issues going in circles but other then that he does everything fine! Sunday of course he got to go team sorting and swimming and then monday I took him to chick practice. Ive been going back and forth on teaching him trick riding. I have never shown before and I just dont know what they are going to be looking for. I dont know if that would impress anyone, I dont know!!!!!!! I just dont know! I am clueless! AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! LOL Usually people want their horse to stop when they fall off, LOL, not me! Anyway, I decided what the heck, lets change it up a little and do some different stuff on ol' Boozer boy! He took to it AMAZINGLY! Stayed on the wall and let me do about 5 tricks on him. Never got scared or upset, stayed a consistent speed, and stopped in the station. He is an amazing animal. The trust that he has is amazing. Here is a little sneak peak at a trick that we did. Happy riding!

week 8
Sorry so long for an update! I hate that I dont have my camera to put pictures up! All I have is videos, and they take forever to upload! I will try to get some up though!
Boozer has been working hard! We have been hanging out on a cutting horse ranch a lot, going to team sortings, and doing lots of swimming. Boozer loves to swim!!! We were having issues loping to the right so I finally broke down and took him to the chiropractor. Yup, he was only out on the right! He is all fixed up now and doing much better to the right! Been working on our flying lead changes and he is doing great! Spins are getting good! Hopefully I will have my camera back before this thing is over! LOL Till next time! Happy trails!

week 5 going into week 6
Spent most of the week with Ren and Brandy! They are so awesome to take me on and take me all around with them. We went to so many of their clients places that opened up their homes to us and let us ride in their arenas. So good for him. Thank you to all those people. Boozer and I really appreciate it.
We went to Mesquite for the rodeo this weekend. Boozer did pretty good. He has even learned that after the rodeo when we go to talk to the crowd he side passes to the rail and lets the people reach thru and pet him. He is such a good boy. So patient with the kids grabbing his whiskers, and ears, and whatever else they can get their hands on.
Sunday we went back to the team sorting at Ellis arena. They are such great people, and the people that attend it are so awesome also. Everyone is so patient and willing to teach and help. Boozer did exceptionally awesome. Last week we were good at getting the cow out but not good at keeping the gate. This week we were awesome at both and when one of the cows tried the gate that was not suppose to he actually CUT it. I was so proud of him, along with everyone else that was there. Shock and awe!!!!!
Monday was practice for the Chicks. Boozer tagged along and I worked him in the round pen. I then jumped on bareback and worked him. He did so good, he is so sensitive to my body. We walked trotted and loped. He did so good. He is such a willing and responsive horse.

Obstacle course wednesday!
Today I tagged along with Ren and Brandy while they went around weatherford making horses happier with natural hoof care. Met a lot of great people and got to take Boozer along. At one stop they had an obstacle course and he did great. I was a very proud mama today! Lots of compliments on how great an animal he was, and how brave he was. Some of the ladies wanted me to rename him to braveheart, lol. But his name will remain Boozer! I will agree with them he was extremely brave. His body would tense if he was not sure of something, then he would go right for it without me having to push him forward. We did tons of great obstacles. Tomorrow Ren will do his feet, and I am hoping that will resolve his tripping issue. He is not tripping bad, but enough.
After the obstacle course we had a few more stops, then we went to one of the places Ren and Brandy keep their horses. We got to ride all over that land, and thru the pond, and open and close gates and see deer. Boozer never ceases to amaze me. He is so funny, he wants to go go go, and not in a bad way. He is loving all the places we have been going and the adventures we are encountering. We have another fun filled day tomorrow planned, so until tomorrow night, have a great one!

Sunday at the team penning!
Boozer went to his first team penning sunday the 6th! He did GREAT! We were a little slow on the gate but pushing the cows he was a natural. I have not put a bit on him yet and he is doing great!
Monday I took him to practice with me, tied him right next to all the action and you would of never known that he was wild. He was half asleep the whole time.

Thursday june 3 and Friday June 4
Thursday was a rough day with Boozer. He is testing me a lot! I have been working him but I guess because I have been a little timid with him he was taking advantage. He was the leader not me. That changed yesterday. I finally decided enough was enough and worked him pretty hard and made him mind. By then end of the session he was dripping a lake. BUT, we had a break thru. He started following my like a puppy dog. It has pretty much been on his terms until yesterday.
This morning when I went to his pen, he came right to me. That was a first. Usually he turns and faces me but never comes to me. When I went to catch him this afternoon he met me halfway. I went to saddle him and he kind of gave me a little grief, which was a first, he never moves when being saddled. I worked him around a couple times and then he was like okay, you really do mean business Ill be good. We worked in the round pen for just a little bit then I helped Chris work one of our other colts and we rode in the arena. He did really good. Loped our first circles in the open. He really has a hard time going to the right. Left, he is perfect. We worked around the poles and barrels and figure eights trotting. I was happy with him today. I got off loosened the saddle and again he was following me like a puppy. I finally became the leader. I just had to grow a pair! LOL
PS
sorry about pictures, I have a ton to load but for some reason they are taking forever. I tried to load one before Boozers afternoon workout and 3 hours later it was still loading. I am really not sure if it is this site or my internet. The other pictures that I have loaded didnt take long at all.

Sunday the 30th and link to video from mesquite
Got lots of yard work done today and then spent a couple of hours on Boozer riding him around the front yard and on all the obstacles. He did pretty great. Still tries to test every once in a while but that is to be expected. He spent the day with us saturday at silverado for a special event and stood there tied like a champ.
Sunday we even put boots on his front and back feet and I figured he would pick his feet up and go on about it a little. Nope, very uneventful. Wondering if its the calm before the storm. LOL He seems to not care about to much just a little spooky still. A friend has told me about a big trail ride that is 100 miles and I am thinking about taking him on some of that one. Time to get out and put some miles on him.
I started having the guys mess with him. He still only trust me. Virgil untied him after I rode him and then unsaddled him, took his boots off and took him to the barn. Figured we would start changing it up a bit. I have the link for a short video of him at the childrens rodeo in mesquite.

mesquite children's rodeo
Boozer got to tag along wednesday and thursday to the mesquite rodeo in mesquite texas. Over 5000 kids wednesday and 6800 thursday. He took it all in stride. He just perked his ears up ever time the kids would start screaming. The only thing he did not like was the clowns big black wig, LOL. He jumped about ten feet straight up when it came at him. After the rodeo we went into the arena and let all the kids reach thru and pet us. He did great!!! I even rode him in the arena thursday before the rodeo. He did great. A little scared of his shadow, LOL, but still did great. Ill post video when I get it uploaded.

Day 18 First ride
Today was a great day. Boozer got his first ride. I know what your thinking, you've seen other people that are doing this and they were on their horses within the first week!
Ginger you say, you only have 3 months to get this horse ready, get moving!
Thats okay I say, I could of ridden him sooner but I wanted a GREAT FOUNDATION on him! Ive worked Boozer every day. I do not take short cuts. I would rather lay a SOLID foundation that way he is SOLID for the rest of his life. I dont want there to be any cracks later on down the road in his training because of something I took a short cut on. I feel like the competition is to show the ability of the older horses to learn and retain what they have learned.
He is a very laid back horse but very reactive at the same time. Please do not think that I am saying that the others are not laying solid foundations on their horses. I am just saying that this is the way I know how to do it. I have never had any training on how to train horses. I read books, watched youtube and watched other people. I took all that I saw and learned and put it into what worked for me. Not every horse is the same, so obviously you have to change it up a bit according to their personality.
I have gotten extremely lucky with Boozer and I thank God for giving me this opportunity with such a wonderful animal. Here are some pictures of what went on today, and one from granbury!

weekend update
It has been a few days since I got to update. Boozer went to his first rodeo in Granbury, my hometown Friday and Saturday! He got tied in the back with all the action and did really good! He controlled his emotions very well. I think that having him around all that action was super great for him cause today was his first day to be saddled, even see a saddle. He took it like a pro. I wasnt going to get on him but since he was acting like it was no big deal I went ahead and jumped on. He didnt do a thing. I got on him with a saddle and bareback and he acted like I had been doing it for years. I was so proud of him. I didnt work him too long just because he was being such a champ about it all. So I put him back up with extra feed to let him stew on it a little. I will go back down a little later and see how he acts. I will post pictures of him at Granbury when I get them downloaded.

sacking out
Today and yesterday we worked on sacking out. He did good, took a little bit but no big deal. First sign of aggression that I got out of him. He chased the bag with teeth barred and attempted to stomp that horse eating bag. Caught me off guard just a little because he has not been aggressive at all. Finally we realized that the bag was pretty mustang friendly and was NOT going to eat us. After that we worked with some other scary things like a ball and swimming pool noodles. After the bag those were not big deal. Terry came in today and so him and Chris got to help desensitize Boozer a little also. They got to play with the ball and throw it over and under Boozer. Chasing that ball all over the yard was a work out!!!! LOL Boozer wants to be a soccer player I think. That is all I have for now!

Sunday workday
I got back today, sunday, from the rodeo in Lindale Texas. The rodeo went pretty good. I got to ride Magi, one of the horses Terry gave me in her first rodeo. She did great all 3 nights, I am really proud of her. I left wednesday and got to work with Boozer a little throughout that day but was mainly getting the trailers and horses ready. I was very very anxious to get back home and work with Boozer. I could not sleep all weekend thinking about it. The minute i got home I was down in his pen. We did all kind of fun stuff today. Trailer loading, obstacles and more. The picture shows him following me up onto the porch. Seems that when we laugh at him for some silly little thing he does he also finds it amusing and does it again. I will post some more pictures when I can get them uploaded. This weekend will be Boozers first rodeo in Granbury Texas, my hometown. We are SUPER excited.

1st day to really work with boozer
Yesterday was a really great day! Chris called around and asked for sponsorships for me and Walden's Farm and Ranch in Millsap gave me something I have been so needing for quite some time. They sponsored half of a brand new round pen for me and Terry sponsored the other half. I love my sponsors, thanks.
The other thing that happened yesterday is that I got to work Boozer in that round pen. He did absolutely fantastic. He is extremely intelligent and athletic. I am so happy with him. Dale Moulton came and helped me get him going. He is an excellent horsemen that I look up to. His skills are beyond supreme. He also not only is sponsoring me his experience, he sponsored me his feed, Thrive. www.thrivefeed.com . I already have my other horses on thrive and they will never eat anything else. I could not be more pleased with how this is turning out. I am super excited that I have started this journey, and already the people that I am meeting that are supporting me are tremendous. I am very grateful and I thank God for the opportunities that he has placed in front of me. I was unable to get pictures yesterday, but here is one from the day we brought him home.

Well, here he is Boozers Last Call! His name came from Terry. Terry's favorite horses name was Boozers Last Call, so in memory of his favorite riding horse we named the mustang that. Thanks Terry for your sponsorship and encouragment, it is greatly appreciated.
So we got to Pauls Valley at 11 to pick Boozer up, no wait at all. Filled my paperwork out and loaded him right up. We stopped to eat on the way home and we all stuck our hands in the trailer to see if he would come up and sniff us. Sure enough he did, he said hello to all four people that stuck their hands thru the trailer. We get him home 4 hours later and unload him. Within an hour I am already petting his head neck and back. I am super super excited about him. He is curious and athletic. I cant wait to start really working him. We pretty much just let him settle in today. All the other horses on the place were excited to see a new addition also. The pig, llama, horses and dogs all came to meet him. I will update as more happens on him. The real work starts tomorrow.

the week I pick up the mustang
Well the week is here! This is a week of preparing myself mentally, and preparing the ranch. I am speechless cause I am nervous! HAHA!
I will say that the last week was good. I sold two horses to make room for Primo. Selling my horses is hard. Izzy and Boo were two out of three horses given to me to train and sale for extra money. I have had them for over a year. LOL, its hard when you put a lot of work into them and then have to sale them. I got SOOOOO lucky. I sold Boo within 4 hours of putting her online to a really great couple that lives 9 miles from my house.
Then I put Izzy online when we got back from the waco ranch rodeo. She sold within 10 minutes, literally, to a couple and their kids that live 6 miles from me. I had been praying about those horses. I didnt want them to end up going to someone that was going to abuse them or a horse trader. I am very pleased with their new families, and I can visit.

I won lot #9!!!!
The bidding starts and I have Terry on one phone to one ear, I have the auction on another phone to the other ear. The auction lady kept asking me to speak up, and I am trying to tell her I am in a library. She was great cause she just really listened for me when I was saying yes, since I was whispering it. It was CRAZY. On top of all this, I have a camera following my every move and one of the other girls on the team commentating on what was going on. LOL. Thanks to the Mt. Pleasant library for not kicking us out, we appreciate it.
Luckily I got my first pick. Lot #9. A big beautiful bay with two back socks. I love him already and I have only seen him in a video. I will say I am feeling a little overwhelmed. I knew this competition was going to be a big one but I am starting to hear all these big name trainers that got horses and I am feeling like I got in way over my head. LOL. I keep telling myself, the experience. Its all about the experience. Just to be in the arena and get to soak in their awesomeness is going to be worth it.
Well that is what is happening so far in a nut shell, I will update more as it comes about! Have a great day!

two days till the bidding
Okay, I am a ball of emotion! As the day draws nearer for the bidding I am getting really tense. I caught all the horses earlier to get ready to leave for the rodeo. I put Tee Jay in a stall and fed him. He would not eat, he just sat at his stall door and watched with his ears perked up. After about 10 minutes of watching him watch me I walked over to make sure he was okay. He just leaned over the stall and nudged me. I guess he can tell that I am really tense right now too. Usually when I am tense he is tense, but today he seemed so relaxed about it. I couldnt help but laugh. All the other horses were just being butts. LOL They love to antagonize me when I am upset. Run around and tease me when I need to catch them. They think its so funny! Those jokers.
SPLASH, he has been on a roll that last couple of days. He opened up the gate to the big field and let himself in with the brood mares. Luckily I walked out right when this crime of opening the gate was being committed and told him he better get his painted little hiney right back in his paddock or those mares were going to eat him alive. He pretended to ignore me a few more minutes even though he was looking right at me the whole time. He just ate a few more blades of grass and I put my hand on my hip as if to say I am going to give you one for chance to come back or the mares can have you for breakfast. He looked up and walked as slowly as he possibly could back into his paddock. I quickly locked and rigged the gate hoping maybe he wouldnt get it open again. Only to come out this morning and find he had let Magi out of her stall. He is such a houdini.
Dollar followed me around like a puppy this morning too. I have him grazing in my front yard at the moment with our yearling Trooper. Trooper was our orphan from last year and he has not really been socialized with other horses. He was so little and we were so worried that the other horses would hurt him. Now he has gone thru a huge growth spurt and needs some horsey manners. So he got turned out with Dollar the mustang cause I knew he would teach him some. He has been a very patient and kind teacher. I cant turn him out with my other guys cause he beats up on them. But trooper hasnt had a mark on him. Ive seen Dollar get after him but he does it in such a good way. Trooper is understanding (kind of) that he is a horse now. LOL Trooper on the other hand has been a pain all morning. He is not taking my frustrations very well. He doesnt want to have anything to do with me today. He is confused. that is okay though. He is only 10 months old. Dollar splash and tee jay know how to handle me when I am on edge. Especially Dollar and tee jay. Such good boys. Well, I am going to go finish getting the trailer put together for this weekend. Keeps my mind off of everything. WHEW!!!

Forgot, The orphan foal I adopted!
I got a call from a ranch here in Weatherford the other day that they had an orphan foal in need of a home. So of course I went and picked the little guy up. We are on a week right now and he is doing really good. He rides in the truck with us to go places, comes in the house for his feedings and loves to play. The picture with two horses in it is Chance and Trooper, my orphan foal last year. I named Chance that because I gave him a second chance on life. Trooper got his name because he was a trooper for loosing his mother at 28 days and having to go all over texas with me to the rodeos. I thought it was fitting too that we ride for the troops. Chance is 4 days old in this picture and trooper is 10 months old.
Acceptance letter came in the mail
My acceptance letter came in the mail yesterday for The Extreme Supreme Mustang Makeover. I am so excited. I got approved for 4 LOL, but I will be lucky if I can even afford one. It said 130 people were accepted and there are 100 mustangs. I am really going to be picky. Ive looked and looked and looked at these horses in the videos. I am not going to settle on one. If I am going to do it I want to do it right and get the horse that I want. I almost would much rather not have a choice. HAHA! Ive got my bid number and the the phone number to the bid line ready to go. Along with a note book on notes that I have taken on the videos. I will be bidding from Mt. Pleasant texas. We have a rodeo that weekend and that is the closest place we know of that has RFDTV. Whew, as time grows closer I get sooooo nervous.
I was talking to my vet about it the other day and he said they knew of someone that has done mustang makeovers before and was wanting to get 4 to train. I am like holy cow, GREAT, he is a big name in the makeovers and it makes me concerned I will not get a horse at all. I dont expect to win this thing, I have never shown in my life. But I would really like to place top 20. But again, I have never shown, and never had a time limit on playing with a mustang. I got soooo lucky on Dollar, my mustang now that I am worried this one is going to be a doozie. LOL I mean trick riding on him in a show 4 months after getting him. He has such a great attitude. I am just hoping my next one has such a great attitude and willing nature about him. Alright I will quit rambling. TTYL
Hope everyone has a great day and God bless

A little introduction on how I acquired the horses I have now
Not that anyone cares, LOL, but in case you do.... I thought I would create a blog to elaborate on my experiences with my horses. Especially my experiences with mustangs. I have always been interested in the mustangs, but growing up my parents would never allow me to have a horse. Not saying that was bad, many factors went into not getting a horse, money a place ect. But if I had gotten a horse when I was younger I would not have the horses I have now. My experiences with horses was whatever old man or friend I could con into letting me ride their horses.
My senior year in high school I met an older gentlemen who owned a stallion. He was a retired cutting horse and the man told me I would be doing him a favor by exercising him. I would get up before school and go out to where he had the horse. Too embarrassed to tell the man I had no clue how to saddle or bridle him, I would go and ride him bareback with a halter and lead rope. Thank the good Lord this was a gentle, laid back stallion.
I acquired my first horse Tee Jay when I was 21. I had just moved back home from college and I decided that I needed a horse and I could not wait any longer. I looked with a friend for months before coming across him. It seems E
VERYONE had a kid broke horse. Half the places we went they could not catch the horse or worse. Horse buying, what a terrible experience for someone that had no clue about the process. My only knowledge of horses is what I had read in a book or online, and my little experience with the stallion in high school. I had actually gone to look at another horse, and of course this "kid broke" horse they couldn't even catch. I got frustrated after about an hour of watching this ridiculous chase and asked if they had anything else. They showed me Tee Jay who was a registered paint horse that was there because the family that owned him had lost their house
and their daughter was needed emergency surgery. He was standing in a stall up to his knees in his own poop and pee. They pulled him out and told me he did not know much, been saddled a few times but that was about it. He was severely emaciated. I was tired of looking for a horse and I was upset at his condition. I said load him up and deliver him.
He was delivered at night into
our gated community. Obviously one of those everyone kno
ws everyone type of deals. My parents met me at the place I was keeping him. I had struck a deal with some people that had 5 acres and two horsse on it. I told them that I would pay for feed and hay and take care of their horses if I could keep mine there. When we unloaded Tee Jay out of the trailer my parents were mortified. They told the people to take him back, I of course argued and he got to stay. They wanted me to hide him because of his condition. Most of the people in the neighborhood came o
ver and new what was going on. Everyone was real nice and helped us with what vet to use and more. Not going to say it was easy, he had to be fed a handful of feed every couple of hours until we could work him up to a scoop a day. Most of the people in the area that had horses told me he would never amount to anything. They were convinced that once I got weight on him that he would become this uncontrollable thing. I never understood that. Not saying we didn't have our issues. I had no clue having a horse that wasnt broke. He was really b
ad about rearing. If he did not understand or did not want to d
o it, he would rear. I never gave up on him though and there were so many trails that we explored. The more miles we did the better he got. My mom would ride with me the most, she would ride one of the other hors
es that was pastured with him. They were both really broke so Tee Jay and I would just follow and learn as we went.
Trail riding him is how I acquired my second horse Splash. There were some other people in the neighborhood that had 7 acres but boarded their horse. They asked me if I would ride him if they brought him home. Of course I
said yes. Splash was a professionally trained western pleasure paint, which was so very different from my Tee Jay who knew nothing. My dad always rode Splash. They have the same personality, you know the ones, always the jokers. The people that owned him eventually gave him to me also. They really had no clue about horses and when I moved and took tee jay with me, splash got severely depressed. A neighbor of theirs called me and told me what was going on so I called and they asked me to come get him. When I pulled up and whistled I thought he was going to have a heart attack. He was laying in the back of their property and he jumped up and ran full force to me, stuck his head in the halter and was trying to load himself before I could get the door open.
I moved to Mineral Wells and they of course went with me along with my jersey steer I had bought, called Norman. I lived there for a while and did play days, barrel races and team penning. Pretty much just what ever I could do to get my riding skills up. I then got a job on a ranch in weatherford taking care of an older couples ranch. They lived in Dallas and needed someone to feed, water and take care of the animals. This was great, 300 acres, an arena, round pen barn and I could bring my animals. I still was wanting something more, I wanted to really get my horses into something. I was asking around when someone told me about the Cowgirl Chicks. I joined and my horses excelled at it. And that is how I got to where I am now. I still live on the ranch and have become a collector of horses, LOL. Just one of those addicting things. Of course though I want to be challenged all the time, and that is how I came about finally getting my first mustang. I needed a challenge, I wanted to know if the skill I had learned over the years was good enough to work with one.
